With the advent of digital downloads over the past few years, we’ve seen all manner of retro remakes and re-releases make their way to the Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network, and the one publisher that has been at the forefront of these releases has been Capcom. So with PAX East kicking off overnight, it isn’t much of a surprise that Capcom have a new retro release to announce…however what may be a bit of a surprise is that the latest game to get the makeover treatment is the 1989 NES favourite Duck Tales!
With Duck Tales Remastered, being developed by WayForward (Contra 4, Adventure Time), Capcom has opted to go down the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix path (try saying that 3 times fast!) and to essentially use the original game as a groundwork to rebuild it from scratch. Instead of using filters to smooth out the pixelation on modern TV’s, Duck Tales Remastered will feature new hand drawn & animated sprites coupled with polygon HD backgrounds for it’s visuals. Capcom has also managed to secure some of the original Disney voice talent, including Alan Young who provided the voice for Scrooge McDuck in the original Disney TV show and games, to bring that extra level of authenticity! All of the original levels will also be lovingly recreated and exanding upon, so fans of the original NES title will have something new to explore.
Capcom has announced that Duck Tales Remastered will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network & Nintendo’s Wii U eShop in Summer 2013 (Winter for us Aussies) and more details will be announced shortly. In the meantime, get ready to bop & sing along and check out the reveal trailer!
